Adult literacy education

Adult education and literacy, oradult literacy education refers to the broad range of basic education services for adults up to college level. These include:
- English language learning (also known as English as a Second Language(ESL) or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL),
- basic literacy (reading and writing),
- adult basic education up through pre-GED instruction,
- adult secondary education (General Education Development equivalency diploma or certificate(GED) preparation, adult or external diploma preparation, alternative high schools for out-of-school youth),
- family literacy and
- transition to college programs.
These services may be offered in community-based programs, schools, volunteer agencies, city or town agencies, community colleges, workplaces, homeless shelters, libraries, or in other organizations. they may also be offered as distance learning, or in models whcih blend face-to-face with distance learning.
