- The Massachusetts System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES) hired consultant Martha Oesch to develop and deliver a training called "Integrating Employability Skills Into the ABE/ESOL Classroom." This training has been held all over the state of Massachusetts for the last three years, to great acclaim from participating ABE/ESOL teachers and program directors. The perspective of the training is that most teachers already are teaching and including employability skills in their lessons, and that it takes merely an awareness on the teachers part to "make explicit what is implicit." For example, almost every teacher uses small group work. This type of work by adult learners is akin to teamwork skill as described in the DOL's SCANS Competency Interpersonal Skills: "working on teams, teaching others, serving customers, leading, negotiating, and working well with people from culturally diverse backgrounds;." The training helps teachers look at their lessons and articulate some of the WfD-related concepts that already exist within them.
