Cultural Sensitivity
Question
I'm working on developing a cultural sensitivity module to bring to
workplaces. The information will be geared toward native English supervisors and employees.
The focus for the module is working with Hmong, Somali, and Mexican employees and increasing cultural sensitivity toward them.
Has any done this or have any suggestions on resources, etc.?
Thanks,
Mary Elsenheimer

The Cultural Orientation Resource Center (at the Center for Applied
Linguistics) has a series of cultural profiles for different refugee
groups. There are profiles for Hmong and Somali among others. The
profile provide a good cultural overview for anyone working with
different refugee groups.

Three good resources with training activities are:
Developing Intercultural Awareness: A Cross-Cultural Training Handbook
by Kohls and Knight
Experiential Activities for Intercultural Learning
by H. Ned Seelye
Cross Cultural Dialogues: 74 Brief Encounters with Cultural Difference
by Craig Storti
They are all available from Intercultural Press - a great resource http://www.interculturalpress.com
Hope this helps!

Question
"Are there existing models and/or strategies for working with consortia of small businesses in the same occupational clusters to provide the basic skills training they need for workers? Also, are there models for consortia of small businesses, say in rural areas, that are not in the same occupational clusters - again, all needed work-focused basic skills training?"
