Tips for organizing a Brown Bag Lunch (BBL) for Professional Development

  • The presenter(s) should plan to eat before or after the BBL
  • If the presentation is a slide show, the slides should be few in number, have images and relatively little text
  • If slides are used,there should be enough light to eat by but also, if possible, the room should be dark enough to see the slides
  • Viewing a short video followed by discussion is one good format. So is a guest speaker followed by discussion. What are others?
  • Having a handout on how to follow up -- further learning on the topic -- might be useful to some participants
  • Make sure there is plenty of food and drink (water/juice/sodas)
