CHANGING ROLES OF WOMEN IN RURAL TURKEY: VILLAGE INSTITUTES AND WOMEN

Abstract: This presentation analyzes the role of a historic literacy campaign in shaping the changing roles of women in rural Turkey. Originally designed to educate and develop the rural population who was lagging behind overall, and the campaign develops a life of its own, becoming an instrument of change and opening the way for empowerment of women.
