Diagnostic Assessment of Reading with Trial Teaching Strategies (DARTTS)
Riverside Publishing (800) 323-9540
Purpose: To provide individual diagnostic information in essential areas of reading and language, and to deliver trial teaching strategies for students reading at any level.
Approach: Norm-referenced, structural test.
Target population: Validated in grade 1 through 12.
Administration: Administered individually. Unclear if it can be administered to groups.
Test length/contraints: It is an untimed test; approximately 30 minutes for the assessment, and 30 minutes for the teaching activities.
Comments: The DARTTS diagnostic assessment is a kit packaged in a file box. There are two components: the Diagnostic Assessment of Reading, or DAR, which provides diagnostic information on a learner's ability to comprehend reading and language, including word recognition, oral reading, word analysis, silent reading comprehension, and spelling. The second component is the Trial Teaching Strategies, which identifies students’ needs through the use of microteaching sessions.
