Health Literacy Fellowships for Medical Students
From LiteracyTentWiki
The Mayor's Office of Adult Education sponsors a health literacy fellowship for a limited number of first- and second-year medical students in New York City. Participating medical students strengthen their health literacy skills through an immersion experience in adult learning as it applies to health.
Health Literacy Fellows serve as teaching assistants at community-based adult education programs throughout the City. Fellows also work with adult educators to implement small health literacy projects.
The fellowship strengthens the work of adult education programs hosting fellows and can have a significant impact on participating students. The experience also prepares fellows to meet the communications challenges they will face in the future as practicing physicians.
