International Family Literacy
From LiteracyTentWiki
How is family or intergenerational literacy defined -- is there any research on this -- in non-western countries?
I think of Scribner and Cole's work with the Vai, and Vygotsky's zone of promixal development which I dimly connect to indigenous cultural practices (both western and non-western). The question raises, too, a deepening of consideration of what family is (communal, extended, clan) and, implicitly, then, how it happens that children are taught and learn under the broader frame of what literacies are within a particular group.
