LD Transition: Implications for Practice
From LiteracyTentWiki
For the most part, implications and questions are presented as originally written by participants at the Meeting of Minds Symposium. This means that some items might be fragments of thoughts and therefore hard to understand. If you were a participant and see such a response, please feel free to edit the implication to reflect what you or your table was thinking.
To comment on the implications, use the edit function of the wiki. To add a new implication, use a single *. To add a comment to an implication, use **. Using this notation creates the following structure:

Implications for Practice
- Incorporate soft skills “social skills” into curriculum for H.D. students.
- Focus on what students can do well “visible role models”
- Identify critical elements of ‘work world’ to be successful.
- Teach/assure students how to be successful in our adult education programs.
- We need to make sure teachers know what LD is and isn’t.
- We need to build more time into teaching students to understand their needs and self-advocate.
- If interview and social skills are so important to getting and holding a job, it’s important for teachers to understand how LD can affect a person’s oral communication skills and social skills, so students can be effectively trained.
