COABE 2009 - Distance Education and Technology Strands
Learner Web - Value Added
Abstract: Wondering about the Learner Web and how it differs from other online learning tools? The Learner Web originator and partners will demonstrate the value added of the Learner Web and discuss distance learning policies and share what we are learning about calculating seat time equivalency.
Objectives
o Demonstrate Learner Web and explain how NCSALL Longitudinal Study of Adult Learning informed its design.
o Explain how Learner Web enhances other web-based technologies.
o Provide details of how Learner Web can help a state/program implement its distance learning plan.
o Share the work of Learner Web partners in developing state distance learning policy and calculating seat time equivalents.
This interactive session will demonstrate the Learner Web and the research that informed its conception, the NCSALL Longitudinal Study of Adult Learning. The study’s Principal Investigator will explain how the research findings led to the development and design of the Learner Web. A DC partner in the Learner Web project will explain how it adds value to the implementation of the DC Distance Learning Plan.
The presenters will demonstrate how the Learner Web enhances web-based instructional products and creates a constructivist context for their use. The team will show how learning plans can wrap around computer assisted learning products to ensure the relevancy of the adult learner’s online learning experience.
Participants will engage in a discussion of their distance learning plans. Presenters will discuss the State Distance Learning Policies and their experience in calculating seat time equivalents.
