Hi everyone,

A small workgroup has spent the last two weeks developing a lesson plan template that could be used by teachers to develop lessons that incorporate social media. We also decided to create a lesson plan template that can be used by professional developers who are planning PD offerings that either use social media or introduce it to teachers. The discussion seemed to point to a couple of things:

  • Make sure that technology/social media tool relates to the objectives you are teaching
  • Choose the right technology/social media tool for the job by considering the objectives and learners
  • Assess and reflect on how the lesson went and how did the technology help or hinder reaching the objectives

Now we need your input! We have developed a draft lesson plan based on the discussion within the small group. But we want to know what you think. If you teach, does this lesson plan make sense to you? Is it something you would use? What's missing or what can be changed? If you provide professional development, would this lesson template help you plan PD offerings related to using social media? Our next steps are to get feedback from a wider audience, look further at any standards that may inform these templates, and then share the final product with you.

View the lesson template here:

Comments? There are three ways you can share your thoughts..

1) When viewing the lesson page, create an account with PBWorks and add your comments at the bottom of the lesson plan template

2) Email your thoughts over the NIFL-PD list-serve

3) Email one of the lesson template workgroup facilitators, Kathy Olesen-Tracey ( ktracey at cait.org) and Destiny Long (dlong at tiu11.org)

We're looking forward to your feedback and hope this tool will be helpful as you explore all the opportunities that social media tools and technology provide.
