I am an independent consultant working in professional development. My clients include the NIFL, where I presently moderate the NIFL-Assessment Discussion List, and coordinate the development of the NIFL-LINCS Special Collection in Assessment; AEPro, where I facilitate an on-line professional development course in Assessment Basics; and the state of Massachusetts, where I coordinate the effort to build our accountability system around student-identified goals.

I've worked in ABE and ESOL since 1984 both in the U.S. and overseas. My focus on assessment began during the 90's when I was the director of a large volunteer-based adult education program. I believe you cannot teach without assessment. I also believe that effective and appropriate assessment equals excellent teaching.

My mission in my role as well as for my professional ambition is to help practitioners understand various types of assessments and their purposes, how to accurately administer them and interpret their data, learn how to make informed decisions when selecting an assessment, and learn how to develop appropriate and effective assessments for the classroom.
