Richard and Others,

We'll make choices about these sites the way we do about restaurants: i choose this one because it's convenient, that one because there, everyone knows my name, another one because I'm hungry for that kind of food, another because the person I am looking for goes there sometimes, etc.

Those of us who grew up with the notion that education happened in the school, will have more difficulty in this new world where we can encounter education the way we do food now. We will keep looking for this unity when the reality is multiplicity. In my state, I see growing rigidity around graduation requirements for high school in a time when students have access to lots of other diplomas. I think education will be better for being liberated, and students, too. I think people are naturally curious. I think the old regimented learning model destroyed motivation over time for many people. It will be good if people can learn what they need to know, when they need to know it. It will be Vygotsky's ZPD, all the time.
