Participants at the 5th Annual Pre-Conference at COABE (Anaheim, 2005) participated in an energizing dialogue and offered shared feedback on the May 4 revision of the PD Policy Platform. Participants discussed whether they could come to consensus on any of the policies, what needed further dialogue, and what needed to be changed before consensus might be achieved. Below is the revised platform (version 9), based upon their feedback. We have also created a PD Policy Historical Document - Version 2 showing what feedback pertained to which policy. Based upon this feedback, it became clear that a second document will need to be created; a PD Policy Matrix that illustrates the policy, rationale, policy practice, and a real example of that practice (if available). The revised platform below and the PD Policy Matrix will be available beginning July 2005 for shared feedback and further dialogue.
Lennox McLendon, Executive Director of the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium (NAEPDC) committed to involving state directors in the ongoing dialogues of the PD Policy Platform later this summer. AALPD will incorporate all feedback and present the final product to State Directors in Fall 2005 at their national meeting where they will consider how these policies could be incorporated into state plans.
