- I don't know if this was one of the questions; I have just been thinking about it. I am doing this a little at a time and not being too hard on myself. Last year I entered a classroom with the freedom to entirely set up the program any way I wanted. I set it up as an individualized group instruction model, but after attending Myrna Manly's math workshop, I started introducing more group hands-on math work and applied math with more of an emphasis on problem solving. At the time this seemed scary. I was not a good math student and don't naturally think in numbers. But it was a lot of fun both for them and me. It took the pressure off me to be the one who knows it all and now we are exploring it together. Although I used to choose the topics, now the students are telling me what math topics they want to cover this way and are directing the group work more and asking more questions. I've begun thinking about how I can use this group work approach to writing instruction and am now adding this in. We were going to use Livejournal or Yahoo groups, but now I am thinking about a Wiki (a word I didn't even know before the end of November) and now I have resources --people I met at the conference-- who I know can help me or point me to resources if I get stuck.”
