Just a quick thought.....I think that having separate Facebook accounts
is almost an essential if one is going to use Facebook as an
instructional tool.

Melinda,
Face book will only let you have one account. You can set up Facebook Groups or Pages to solve your problems. Groups are good for what you are doing.

You're exactly right about the Groups. I have several Facebook
accounts, one for my personal use, one for professional use, one for the
class each using a different e-mail.

Jim,
These are wonderful points. One of my goals in this discussion is to learn how to manage the personal / professional aspect of social networking. One thing I advocate for is to have a program or classroom 'fan page' on facebook. This allows me to connect with students who are using this feature and still have a level of privacy for my personal life. Yet -now I am managing two accounts - a time consuming task. There was a phrase coined a while back: Weisure (a combination of work and leisure) which indicates our inability to disconnect from work during times of leisure.
