Talk:Authentic assessment
From LiteracyTentWiki
I thought the distinction should be between "authentic" or "direct" assessment and "mediated" assessment. In direct or authentic assessment one is directly measuring a performance. A direct or authentic measure of the ability to write an essay, for example, is writing an essay, of the ability to follow instructions may be "Given a set of instructions, complete the steps and produce the (expected) results." A mediated assessment, for example a multiple choice test, assesses something which stands for the direct or authentic measure. A direct or authentic measure is better, from a measuring point of view, but often not possible because of cost, time to administer or other reasons. --Djrosen 13:59, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)
