I am a student at Walden's EdD HEAL program and this wiki was suggested by my professor. I teach nursing, and an ongoing issue is how do we assist our foreign educated nursing students to be successful test takers? Multiple-choice examination are a primary assessment method due to the need for our graduates to take the NCLEX-RN examination upon graduation. I believe that poorly designed assessments potentially penalize all of our students, but place an additional burden upon our English as a second language students. This is an aspect of what I want to research for my capstone project. Faculty have self reported a weakness in item writing and test construction and despite numerous faculty development programs in this area, our tests have issues with fairness, reliability and validity. I want to research how our faculty approach test construction to gain an understanding about what is actually happening at my program.
