Conference Information

WE LEARN 5th Annual (Net)Working Gathering & Conference on Women & Literacy
Building Alliances / Construyendo Alianzas

March 7- 8, 2008
Fordham University at Lincoln Center
New York City

Co-sponsored with WE LEARN by the Fordham University Graduate School of Education

Conference Mission

Women continue to be separated by culture, language, literacy, geography; our differences are profound. The daily lives of women in adult basic/literacy education remain especially complex due to inequities based on race, class, gender, and other diversities. This year’s conference will explore the differences that divide women and look to ways of building alliances across those differences.

This area of the wiki is dedicated to expanding the reach of the conference. Descriptions of each of the sessions have been uploaded to a separate web pages, and on those pages you are encouraged to post questions or thoughts about the topics covered. The hope is that ideas and questions posted prior to the conference will be introduced at the conference during the session. After the conference will we ask the presenter and attendees to responded to the questions on the web. In addition, some questions posted here on the wiki will be posted on large newsprint and attendees will be able to write responses. Those responses will also be uploaded after the conference is over.

  • What ways are programs and services working together to address these needs for women in all contexts of their lives: home, education, work, and community?
  • How can WE LEARN members become allies to organize for equity in adult basic/literacy education? How do we join with other social-justice seeking groups to organize for equity in our communities?
  • What do we envision or dream for women working together across literacies?
