WE LEARN 2009 - Town Hall Meeting

Panelists:

Gabriele Strohschen (Moderator/Organizer)
A former ESL learner, now professor at the School for New Learning at DePaul University, Chicago, an interdisciplinary college for adults. She is active in community, literacy, and international education communities.

Jeniffer Herrera-Andujar
Learner Leadership Coordinator for the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education in NYC and the point person for the AEAA (Adult Education Alumni Alliance). She's a GED alumnus and recent graduate from Lehman College.

Sandra Bridwell
Professor of Educational Leadership in the Doctoral Program at Cambridge College. Her work focuses on social issues of women and disenfranchised groups.

Heidi Collins
Heidi Collins became the Director of Public Education in March when Parents for Progress merged with The Poverty Institute. Her career in public policy advocacy began in 1993 as a founding member and community organizer for six years for the Coalition Against Poverty in Southeastern Massachusetts. She has experience in leadership development of low-income constituencies, in public education and outreach on public benefit programs, and engaging various constituencies in public policy advocacy.

Diana Hunter
Emerging Student Leader, Americorp worker and WE LEARN Board Member -- Since attending the WE LEARN conference in 2007, Diana has really worked on leadership. She wants to develop more programs for Learners to Lead Learners. Diana is very interested in empowering women. She believes that, through education, women can gain self-confidence and self-esteem.

Mev Miller
Director and Founder of WE LEARN (Women Expanding Literacy Education Action Resource Network). She is a co-editor of Empowering Women Through Literacy: Views from the Field and is passionate
